Facility to blacklist unsolicited calls soon
RISHI RAJ

NEW DELHI, OCT 25: Mobile operators will soon be able to provide the facility to blacklist unwanted calls. The system known as ‘select caller list’, functioning at the user level, has been devised by BK Modi and promoted Mcorp Global group company, Cellebrum, which provides value-added services to service providers.

Cellebrum marketing and business alliances head Savinder Sarna told FE that the blacklisted numbers would not be able to connect to the subscriber and would instead get an IVRS response of the blockage. Meanwhile, the subscriber, will get a list of numbers who wanted to call him.

The system can be customised to receive only such calls, which a subscriber wants at a given period. For instance, while travelling, subscribers can block all such numbers that are not in the phone book to keep a check on the roaming bill.

Sarna said the company is in talks with all the leading service providers like Bharti Airtel, Hutch, Idea, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices to offer the facility.

To opt for the facility, subscribers will have to pay a monthly subscription charge ranging between Rs 25-50, depending upon the service providers.Cellebrum has also devised another system, which will enable pre-paid subscribers to make outgoing calls even after exhausting their balance. The service known as ‘pay for me service’ will connect such calls on the condition that the receiver agrees to pay.

Sarna said the company was in talks with service providers for deployment of this service and once functional, the system would bring about the concept of lifetime outgoing.
