Indian Council of Religious Leaders (ICRL)
Doctor M is President of the Indian Council of Religious Leaders (ICRL), the premier interfaith organization that is working towards a synthesis of world religions based on the universal concept of Peace.
The Millennium World Peace Summit held at the UN General Assembly Hall from August 28-31, 2000 was one such global initiative where more than a thousand Religious and Spiritual Leaders representing several faiths and beliefs gathered together. Doctor M led the largest delegation of 108 Spiritual and Religious leaders from India who participated in addressing issues related to the elimination of global poverty, conflict resolution, forgiveness and reconciliation, preservation of the ecology and working towards the ideal of global peace.
In addition to the signing of The Commitment to Global Peace, the Summit culminated in a number of remarkable outcomes. One of them was the formation of the World Council of Religious Leaders with its headquarters at New York that would work with other international organizations in peace-making and peace-keeping efforts.
The Indian Council of Religious Leaders (ICRL) was formed as the Indian national body to carry forward the peace agenda. With a member body comprising of 47 revered and respected religious and spiritual leaders of India, ICRL is a unique peace initiative that aims at promoting international peace and harmony. Towards this it has organized several programs including World Dharma Days, Global Peace Pilgrimage to 47 cities, Sindhu Darshan program, Maha Kumbh camps etc. ICRL’S honored members are trying to ‘build bridges of understanding’ between various communities, while respecting the ocean of diversity in concepts and convictions of different faith traditions.
